Talk with Ms. Susie Kocher, from the University of California Cooperative Extension – Central Sierra (El Dorado, Calaveras, Amador and Tuolumne Counties).

This talk will discuss the challenges faced by small non-industrial private forestland owners who have been impacted by wildfires, and the current efforts to help them restore resilience to their forest land. It will provide an overview of the characteristics of private forest landowners, the issues they face, the impact of wildfires on their land, and the initiatives taken by various agencies, non-profit organizations, and the University of California to assist them with reforestation.

Ms. Susie Kocher is a Forestry Advisor for the University of California Cooperative Extension in the Central Sierra Nevada. Ms. Kocher has been conducting outreach, education, and applied research on forest landowners for 26 years. Her current projects examine forest stewardship and post-fire forest resilience education for landowners. She also reports on issues facing small private landowners. Susie is a co-founder of the California Fire Science Consortium and co-chair of the Landowner Outreach and Education working group of the California Governor's Forest Management Task Force. She has lived in the Sierra Nevada for thirty years and is a California Registered Professional Forester.
