“Policy-Based Research and Research-Based Policy for K-12 School Re-Opening During COVID-19”

Event Date

Location
1115 11th Street, Sacramento and by Zoom webinar

Talk with Dr. Naomi Bardach from UC San Francisco.

School reopening and operations were a flashpoint for much of the pandemic. Rapidly evolving science informed school reopening policies and operations, but also the multiple aspects of government in California were involved - executive branch, legislative branch, and even the judiciary. This talk reflects on the rollercoaster of schools and COVID in California, elucidating how science informed policy, and how science also needed to be guided by policymakers so that the scientific data could be highly relevant and actionable for schools and children. There are multiple lessons learned that illuminate how our systems do and do not work in a pandemic, and the talk will include thoughts on how to take those lessons into the future.
