UC Center Sacramento Welcomes Former California State Senator and California State Assemblymember Fran Pavley as 2020 Governance Fellow

Sacramento, CA – The UC Center Sacramento (UCCS) is pleased to announce that Former California State Senator and State Assemblymember Fran Pavley will serve as its 2020 Governance Fellow.

Each year, UCCS appoints a prominent California public servant as its Governance Fellow. Prior Fellows have included former members of the legislature, officials elected to statewide office, and a justice of the state supreme court. Fellows alternate between Democratic and Republican party affiliation.

“With the passage of AB32, the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006, Fran Pavley established herself as a giant in the annals of environmental legislative history,” said Richard Kravitz, Director of UC Center Sacramento. “She will be an inspiration to the UCCS students who have the privilege of connecting with her.”

Pavley is currently the Environmental Policy Director at the USC Schwarzenegger Institute. In February 2018, Pavley was appointed by Governor Brown to the Wildlife Conservation Board. As a State Senator, Fran Pavley represented nearly 1 million constituents who lived in portions of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. As a Democrat, she served two terms in the California State Senate and three terms in the California State Assembly. Prior to her time in the California State Legislature, Fran Pavley served as the first Mayor of Agoura Hills and served four terms on the City Council, earned a Masters Degree in Environmental Planning, and was appointed to the California Coastal Commission while also teaching middle school for 29 years.

UCCS is a teaching and policy research dissemination program of the University of California. Its mission is to prepare California’s future leaders for careers in public service and to share knowledge in the interest of better public policymaking. UCCS Governance Fellows provide guidance to UCCS undergraduates as they undertake coursework and internships at or near the Capitol.

Fran Pavley’s term as the UCCS 2020 Governance Fellow begins on January 1, 2020 and continues through December 31, 2020.
