Wednesday Speaker Series

The UC Center Sacramento (UCCS) offers weekly public lectures by UC faculty on a variety of public policy issues. Attendees include UCCS students, legislative staff, employees of state agencies and departments, advocates, and members of the general public.  UCCS invites faculty members from any UC campus to deliver lectures summarizing new findings or synthesizing information with potential implications for state policy.

Lectures may address any policy-relevant topic, but each year the Center puts together several mini-series which emphasize special themes, for 2020-2021 the themes are 1) Economic Revival in California During and After the Covid-19 Pandemic; 2) Meeting the Needs of California’s Changing Workforce; and 3) The Future of Publicly Funded Education.

In 2019-2020 the themes were 1) Affordable Housing and Homelessness in California; 2) Adapting to Climate Change and Extreme Weather in California; 3) Using Big Data to Inform and Refine Public Policy in California. In 2018-2019 the themes were 1) Pathways to Universal Health Care; 2) California vs. The Feds: Immigration, Environment, and Cannabis; 3) A Roof Over 40 Million Heads: California's Housing Policy Challenges and Solutions. 

The public talks are held on Wednesdays at noon and lunch is provided.
