UC Center Sacramento to Honor 2021 Governance Fellow and Former Chief Clerk of the California State Assembly E. Dotson Wilson

UC CENTER SACRAMENTO TO HONOR 2021 GOVERNANCE FELLOW AND FORMER CHIEF CLERK OF THE CALIFORNIA STATE ASSEMBLY E. DOTSON WILSON

Sacramento, CA – The UC Center Sacramento (UCCS) is pleased to share that it will be hosting a virtual event to honor UCCS 2021 Governance Fellow, former Chief Clerk, and current California Fair Political Practices Commissioner E. Dotson Wilson on January 27, 2022 from 5:30-7pm via Zoom.

Each year, UCCS appoints a prominent California public servant as its Governance Fellow. Prior Fellows have included former members of the legislature, officials elected to statewide office, and a justice of the state supreme court. Fellows normally alternate between Democratic and Republican party affiliation.

Commissioner Wilson grew up in Albany, California. He majored in political science and attended UCLA on a track scholarship.  Commissioner Wilson also has a law degree from the UC Hastings College of Law. Before becoming Chief Clerk, Commissioner Wilson was an Assembly Fellow with former Majority Leader and Assembly Speaker Willie Brown.  Following his fellowship, he went to work for Brown and served as the Deputy Chief of Staff to Speaker Brown prior to becoming Chief Clerk.

Commissioner Wilson was first elected as Chief Clerk of the California State Assembly in January of 1992 and was unanimously re-elected by the membership of the Assembly for each two-year session since 1992.  He has held a number of positions during his tenure as Chief Clerk and recently retired after a 40-year career with the California State Assembly.  Commissioner Wilson currently sits on the board for the California Fair Political Practices Commission.

UCCS is a teaching and policy research dissemination program of the University of California. Its mission is to prepare California’s future leaders for careers in public service and to share knowledge in the interest of better public policymaking. UCCS Governance Fellows provide guidance to UCCS undergraduates as they undertake coursework and internships at or near the Capitol.
