Bacon Public Lectureship and White Paper Competition 2016-17
BACON PUBLIC LECTURESHIP AND WHITE PAPER COMPETITION, 2016‐17
The UC Center Sacramento, located across from the State Capitol and jointly administered by UCOP and UC Davis, announces the third annual UCCS Bacon Public Lectureship and White Paper Competition, focusing on Evidence-Based Public Policy. This program is made possible by a generous gift from Kevin and Kim Bacon. The purpose of the program is to stimulate evidence synthesis and creative thinking around a pressing public policy problem confronting California. The winner of the competition will deliver a Public Lecture at the Center during Winter Quarter, 2017; prepare a short White Paper and Policy Synopsis that the Center will disseminate broadly; and receive travel support, editorial support, and a research stipend totaling up to $10,000.
Proposals are due by midnight on May 16, 2016 and should address a public policy problem related to Childhood Poverty, Civic Engagement, or Clean Energy (please see list of specific questions appended to this announcement). Outstanding proposals will explain why the specific issue or question chosen is timely and important; describe how the final product will integrate the available evidence with the faculty member’s own insights and/or primary research; and suggest how policymakers can make wise decisions in the face of insufficient or conflicting evidence. Incorporation of evidence derived from the experience of other states (including cross-state comparisons) is encouraged.
Members of the State Legislature and/or Executive Branch officials will participate in the Public Lecture as presenters and reactors.
All full-time UC Faculty (Senate and Federation) are eligible to apply. Application instructions are available on the UCCS website (uccs.ucdavis.edu/bacon-public-lectureship).
